Thermal coal inventories at all grid-connected power plants in eastern China's Zhejiang exceeded 6.67 million tonnes, the highest in history, sufficient for 21.9 days' worth of usage, the provincial energy bureau said at a conference on November 29.
The figure was 2.9 days more than the corresponding period last year, thanks to efforts of relevant authorities and companies to ensure energy supply.
The overall power supply in Zhejiang will be guaranteed, with potential supply tightness during certain peak periods being satisfied through various measures, including increasing high-grade coal supply, promoting the signing and fulfillment of term coal contracts and obtaining more natural gas resources, it said.
Zhejiang has also signed contracts for 7.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas resources, with approximately 700 million cubic meters stored.
Meanwhile, Fujian will provide an additional 2 GW of power capacity to Zhejiang during the winter, and the southwestern large-scale hydropower stations will provide an additional 1.33 TWh of electricity in December.
The energy bureau predicted most areas of the province to see temperatures this winter close to or slightly higher than the same period in previous years, with intermittent cold air activity and precipitation close to or slightly above the normal levels.
The maximum demand for electricity during the peak winter period is estimated to reach 95 GW, a growth of 10.3% year on year, it stated.
