Mongolia and China have agreed to implement round-the-clock operations at the Zamiin-Uud-Erenhot border crossing starting December 1, 2023, B. Tulga, minister of Mongolia and chairman of the National Committee for Port Revival, said lately.
The move to extend continuous operations to the Zamiin-Uud-Erenhot crossing is anticipated to yield substantial benefits for cross-border trade.
The 24/7 operation of Zamiin-Uud-Erenhot port is poised to strengthen the transit capacity of the railway connecting Russia, Mongolia, and China, which is expected to result in decreased transportation costs, reduced congestion, and increased efficiency in the circulation of goods and products.
Imported bulk cargoes through Erenhot are mainly iron ore, wood, copper ore, petroleum, and pulp. Export commodities are mainly carbon electrodes, asphalt and steel structures.
China currently boasts 317 border crossings, including 87 seaports, 80 airports, and 180 road border crossings. Among the land border crossings, only the Manzhouli border crossing on the China-Russia border operates 24/7.
The Altanbulag border crossing, already operating 24/7, holds strategic significance as a key junction for railway transportation between Mongolia and Russia, playing a vital role in the rail central corridor.
