Northern China's coal-rich Shanxi province churned out 1.01 billion tonnes of coal during January-September, a 4.5% rise year on year, showed data released by the provincial statistics bureau on October 23.
Several northern regions of China have entered the heating season from October 15. Shanxi, abundant with fuel resources, has been boosting coal production to ensure stable energy supply for the peak winter season demand, Xinhua News Agency reported.
The daily average coal mining output at an open-pit coal mine in Shuozhou of Shanxi reached 80,000 tonnes recently, adding strong support for efficient coal ramp-up in Shanxi.
The Fenwei CCI index for 5,500 Kcal/kg NAR domestic thermal coal stood at around 1,020 yuan/t, FOB northern China ports with VAT. Insiders stated that coal demand continued to increase due to primarily the stronger demand from coal chemical sector caused by rising crude oil prices, and the approaching heating season in northern China.
The local government urged coal companies across the province through holding a series of meetings to further utilize advanced capacity and accelerate coal shipments for stable power coal supply guarantee on the premise of production safety.
