Wuhai Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Energy Investment Corporation, has obtained new mining licenses for four mines, addressing the problem of resource tightness that has long constrained its output, the company announced.
With the new license granted, Gonwusu mine can get access to resources of 184.2 million tonnes in deep seams, expanding its lifespan by 22 years. Gongwusu is the largest coking coal producer in western Inner Mongolia, with a designed capacity of 2.7 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa). It has a supporting washing plant, enabling all raw coal to be washed. The mine has been running at a lower capacity due to a lack of resources.
Prior to that, Wuhushan, Pinggou, and Huangbaici also got new mining permissions.
The new license allows Wuhushan to extract 30.04 million tonnes of deeper resources, adding seven years to its lifespan. Pinggou can mine 93.57 million tonnes for another 27 years, and Huangbaici 30.52 million tonnes for 15 years longer.
Wuhai Energy boasts coal reserves of 1.60 billion tonnes in two coalfields located in western Inner Mongolia, of which 91% are coking coal. With recoverable reserves of 465 million tonnes, it is the largest coking coal producer in Inner Mongolia.
The company has 10 coal mines, with six now in operation. It has a total approved mining capacity of 15 Mtpa and a designed washing capacity of 19.3 Mtpa.
