Australian coal exports to China rebounded drastically after China resumed imports early last year, local media reported on February 27.
Coal exports from New South Wales (NSW) to China accounted for 24% of the total last year, even surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
Thermal and metallurgical coal outflows to China totaled 36.00 million tonnes in 2023, with the value calculated at around $5.7 billion FOB, data showed.
Coal, the most valuable export product in NSW, made great contributions to NSW's economy growth last year. Record taxes of mining rights were paid to the government as coal exports recovered, said Stephen Galilee, CEO of the NSW Minerals Council.
