Daily power coal transportation by China Railway Harbin Group climbed 5.1% month on month to reach 238,000 tonnes since the start of December, thanks to efforts made to meet surging heating demand as temperatures in some northeastern areas fell to a comparatively low level in history.
As a result, 34 heat and power plants fed directly by the railway group held 5.77 million tonnes of coal stocks, enough for 28 days of usage, state media CCTV reported lately.
The group has intensified efforts in organizing the loading and unloading of coal wagons during severe snowfall and cold wave weather conditions, providing a green channel for power coal supply to ensure supply security.
While maintaining maximum transportation capacities on the traditional key routes, the group also expanded the eastern Inner Mongolia-bound rail capacities, by adding 13 more lines on the Yimin railway in Hulunbeir of the coal-rich region.
