Haoji, the world's longest heavy-load railway, had transported 60.04 million tonnes of power coal as of December 11 this year, marking a year-on-year rise of 9.5%, according to China State Railway Group.
During the same period, the 21 medium- and long-term contract customers in the railway-covered regions completed the transportation of 44.81 million tonnes of coal, exceeding the schedule by 15.3%, data showed.
Building to facilitate coal transport from northern production areas of Inner Mongolia, Shanxi and Shaanxi to central and southern provinces, the 1,814-kilometer rail line has stepped up efforts to facilitate transportation to meet rising demand from power plants, especially in Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi provinces during cold waves.
Power coal stocks in Hunan hovered at a high level of above 5.80 million tonnes, sufficient for 27 days of continuous full-capacity utilization. This also marks the best performance for the same period in history, providing a solid foundation to meet electricity demand in the province.
On December 16, the province saw the highest power load reach 35.26 GW, hitting a new high for winter history.
