Coal India Limited, the country's largest coal producer, is gearing up to enhance its coal transportation infrastructure by pushing the completion of various railway projects by 2025, in a strategic move to meet escalating energy demand, local media reported.
The Tori-Shivpur New BG Double line, which spans 43.70 km and has been in operation since December 2019, is currently configured to transport approximately 65 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of coal. The ongoing construction of a third line is set to conclude by March 2024, projecting a significant capacity boost to around 100 Mtpa.
Another key project is the Jharsuguda – Barpali – Sardega New BG line, which commenced operations on April 5, 2018, covering a distance of 52.41 km. Presently, efforts are underway to double its capacity, with expectations of elevating throughput to approximately 65 Mtpa by December 2023, according to reports.
