Coal production of Indonesia is expected to exceed the official target of 695 million tonnes by 2023, Reuters reported, citing Hendra Sinadia, the executive director of the Indonesian Coal Mining Association (ICMA).
"As of today, output has reached 690 million tons, so it is estimated that by the end of the year production will exceed the target", said Hendra Sinadia.
Indonesian average monthly coal production stood at 61 million tonnes over September and October this year.
However, Sinadia cautioned that monthly coal output may decline in the rainy season at the end of this year, while he did not predict the decline range.
Indonesian coal production totaled 689 million tonnes so far this year, rising from 687 million tonnes in 2022, showed data released by mining ministry.
And the cumulative exports volume stood at 350 million tonnes so far this year, compared with 494 million tonnes in 2022, data showed.
As the world's largest thermal coal exporter, Indonesia has set a target of 457.3 million tonnes for coal exports in 2023.
