India's ministry of coal reported a 23% year-on-year surge in total coal output from captive and commercial mines during April 1-November 20, amounting to 80 million tonnes, according to local media.
During a recent review meeting, a comprehensive assessment of performance and projections for the fiscal year 2023-24 was conducted.
M Nagaraju, additional secretary of the ministry of coal, emphasized the significance of meeting production goals and promptly commencing operations at coal blocks that are nearing completion.
The ministry forecast coal production to reach 145 million tonnes for FY2023-24, potentially resulting in a decline in the country's coal imports.
From April to September, India's coal intakes stood at 127.82 million tonnes, down 3.07% on the year.
