DTEK, the largest commercial energy operator in Ukraine, has imported 103,000 tonnes of thermal coal from Poland since September this year, as announced by Ildar Saleev, CEO of the company, on Facebook.
The initial batch of 4,200 tonnes of coal arrived at the end of September, marking the beginning of a regular supply chain.
On November 13, the company concluded a contract for an additional 70,000 tonnes of thermal coal from Poland, bringing the total volume of coal imports to 280,000 tonnes.
DTEK plans to continue receiving regular shipments from Polish for its thermal power plants, with an additional 177,000 tonnes of coal planned for import by the end of the 2023/2024 heating period.
Saleev further explained that the additional volume of imported coal will enhance the resilience of Ukrainian heat generation and the energy system as a whole, enabling a smoother transition through the heating season.
