India imported a total 25.58 million tonnes of coal in October, rising 26.29% year on year and 9.72% on the month, according to data released by Iman resources.
In the month, non-coking coal imports in the country increased 52.72% from a year ago and 16.33% from September to 19.00 million tonnes, while coking coal intakes reached 4.24 million tonnes, down 12.75% year on year but up 3.97% on the month.
India imported 1.21 million tonnes of PCI coal during the same period, declining 12.22% from the year prior and 12.94% from a month earlier. Anthracite imports increased 51.73% year on year and 64.59% month on month to 155,300 tonnes.
In October, Indonesia was the largest non-coking coal supplier to India at 11.89 million tonnes, up 51.52% YoY and 14.38% MoM. Non-coking coal intakes from South Africa came in at 2.97 million tonnes, surging 75.35% YoY yet falling 2.42% MoM, data showed.
The country imported 2.63 million tonnes of coking coal from Australia over the month, down 14.42% YoY but up 14.49% MoM; inflows from the U.S. were 577,000 tonnes, down 3.78% YoY and 32.79% MoM.
In the first ten months this year, India's accumulated imports of non-coking coal reached 145 million tonnes and that of coking coal stood at 47.71 million tonnes. PCI coal imports totaled 14.43 million tonnes.
