Germany imported 2.04 million tonnes of hard coal in September, falling 29.45% compared to the same month last year, according to preliminary data from German Statistics Bureau.
The imports climbed by 26.75% from August, snapping the five-month consecutive decline, data showed.
The import value stood at €419 million (about $452.5 million), a notable 60.41% year-on-year slump and a 28.73% month-on-month rise. That put the average import value at €205.95/t, down 43.88% from a year ago yet up 1.56% from the previous month.
In the nine months of 2023, Germany's hard coal imports totaled 20.23 million tonnes, down 24.41% on the year, with the value of imports sliding 45.19% year on year to €4.66 billion.
