Coal produced in Zhundong of northwestern China's Xinjiang region was unloaded in Cangzhou, Hebei province and further transported via vessels through Huanghua port to surrounding power plants and chemical enterprises on November 19 for the first time, local media reported.
A special train loaded with coal produced from Zhundong set off from Jingou rail station and arrived at Huanghua port on November 15 after traveling 3,600 kilometers, according to Xinjiang Daily.
This batch of coal is produced by Hongshaquan mine of CHN Energy Xinjiang Group, marking the first shipment of coal from Zhundong to Huanghua port for seaborne transport to consumption areas.
"A total of 104 containers carrying 3,330 tonnes of coal arrived at the port on November 15," said Liu Changjiang, deputy general manager of the sales company with the group.
The successful opening of this new route provides effective support for enhanced outbound transport of Xinjiang coal, expanding the sales of coal from Xinjiang to coal-consuming enterprises in eastern, central and southern China.
"The sales volume of coal from the company now constitutes 20% of the total sales in the region," said Li Haichao, chairman of the sales company. He added that the company will continue to expand coal supply radius and strengthen west-to-east coal transport, better integrating into the domestic coal supply cycle.
