Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has warned coal and other mineral mining companies that they face a risk of losing their business permits (IUP) if failing to submit work plans and budgets (RKAB), an official said on November 6, noting nearly 40 miners had yet to file the proposals as required.
The ESDM aims to use the RKABs to manage activity in the mining sectors. Companies are required to detail their planned production, sales, expenditures and other activities for the coming year.
Bambang Suswanto, acting director general of Minerals and Coal at the ESDM, said the ministry had recorded 37 mineral mining companies that had not submitted RKABs as of November 1.
He said the ministry would issue three written warnings each giving the companies 30 days to file plans.
"IUP holders who do not submit RKABs will be given written warnings three times, with each warning period a maximum of 30 calendar days," Bambang told a parliamentary committee.
After three warnings, the ministry will impose administrative sanctions including suspending mine operations, he said.
Indonesia is the largest thermal coal exporter. It is also a major exporter of tin, nickel, bauxite and copper.
