Turkey imported 3.64 million tonnes of coal in September, down 8.79% from the preceding year and 4.56% from a month earlier, falling for the second consecutive month, the country's trading statistics showed.
The value of imports slumped 55.86% year on year to $424 million, down 12.88% from August. That put the average import price at $116.68/t in September, down 51.61% from a year ago and 8.72% month on month.
During January-September, Turkey's coal imports reached 29.24 million tonnes, up 12.51% from the year-ago level. The accumulative import value amounted to $4.33 billion, down 28.12% on the year.
Turkey's imports of bituminous coal stood at 3.25 million tonnes in September, decreasing 1.1% year on year and 1.11% from August. The imports amounted to $340 million, falling 53.41% year on year and 8.59% from the preceding month.
Anthracite coal imports in September dropped 47.17% from the year-ago level and 25.77% on the month to 341,300 tonnes. Coking coal imports were 50,300 tonnes, down 16.4% on the year and 27.46% on the month.
Turkey's imports of coke amounted to 202,900 tonnes in September, jumping 240.81% year on year and 522.08% month on month. The value of coke imports soared 1.4 times on the year and nearly 7 times from August to $63.91 million.
