Vietnam's coal output fell for the sixth straight month in September, sinking to a new low in recent eight months, according to the latest data from the General Statistics Office (GSO).
The southeastern Asian country produced 3.62 million tonnes of coal in September, a 0.35% uptick from 3.61 million tonnes a year ago but a 7.69% decline compared to 3.92 million tonnes in August, the data showed.
From January to September this year, Vietnam's cumulative production amounted to 36.52 million tonnes, 3.03% lower than 37.66 million tonnes last year.
The country's coal production is expected at 3.8 million tonnes in October, falling 5.59% on the year but climbing 4.87% month on month. This added to the total production to 40.31 million tonnes in the first ten months, down 3.28% from a year earlier.
The majority of domestically produced coal in Vietnam is used for local electricity generation, cement production, and other industrial purposes.
