Russia's seaborne coal exports increased 10.51% month on month to 11.77 million tonnes in February 2024, ending the sixth straight month of decline, according to Kpler's cargo-tracking data.
The volume was also 8.73% lower compared with the same month in the preceding year, the data showed.
Shipments to top destination China's mainland stood at 3.29 million tonnes in February, increasing 12.23% month on month, still much lower than the lowest level in December 2023.
The volume was also 25.07% lower than the year-ago level, representing 28% of Russia's total seaborne coal exports.
South Korea came as the second-largest destination, with shipments at 1.65 million tonnes, climbing 31.62% from the month-ago level yet declining 15.12% from a year ago, data showed.
Shipments to Turkey were registered at 1.39 million tonnes, down 17.93% month on month and 5.78% year on year.
Russia delivered 929,800 tonnes of coal to India in the same month, decreasing 55.12% from the previous month and 59.19% from the year-ago level. Shipments to China's Taiwan fell 4.19% from January to 626,600 tonnes, which was 5.34% higher from the same month last year.
Over the first two months of 2024, Russia's total seaborne coal exports reached 22.42 million tonnes, down 16.68% year on year. Shipments to China reduced 36.31% on the year to 6.24 million tonnes, a share of 27.82%.
