Northwestern China's Qinghai province generated 8.37 TWh of electricity in January, rising 8.2% from a year earlier, according to data released by the local energy bureau.
Hydropower output increased 3.1% year on year (YoY) to 2.72 TWh, thermal power declined 8.1% YoY to 1.73 TWh, solar power was up 43.4% YoY to 2.86 TWh and wind power decreased 13.2% YoY to 1.06 TWh.
In January, Qinghai's power consumption totaled 9.44 TWh, rising 10.7% YoY.
For the non-residential segment, the primary industries, mainly the agricultural sector, consumed 10 GWh of electricity during the given period, up 4.6% YoY; the secondary industries, primarily the industrial sector, used 8.19 TWh of electricity, a 10.1% increase YoY; the tertiary industries, largely the service sector, registered a 23.4% rise to 700 GWh.
Residential electricity consumption climbed 5.7% YoY to 540 GWh for January.
In the month, the province's outbound electricity reached 1.56 TWh, rising 30.9% YoY, while purchased electricity increased 32.7% YoY to 2.65 TWh.
