Turkey imported 3.53 million tonnes of coal in January 2024, rising 20.98% from 2.92 million tonnes in the preceding year yet declining 2.93% from 3.64 million tonnes a month earlier, according to the country's trading statistics.
The value of coal imports declined 2.51% year on year to $527 million, rising 17.86% from December. That put the average import price at $149.13/t in January, down 19.41% from a year ago yet up 21.41% month on month.
Turkey's imports of bituminous coal stood at 2.69 million tonnes in the same month, up 3.75% year on year yet down 19.96% month on month. The imports amounted to $299 million, falling 32.24% year on year and 22.16% from the preceding month.
Turkey's coking coal imports were 747,600 tonnes in January, surging 197.18% on the year and nearly 300% on the month. Anthracite coal imports in the same month increased 26.4% from the year-ago level and 7.82% on the month to 91,400 tonnes.
Coke imports amounted to 74,900 tonnes in January, increasing 65.71% year on year and 29.57% month on month. The value of coke imports soared 79.58% on the year to $23.79 million, which was also 26.49% higher than the previous month.
