Iron ore exports to China from Australia's Port Hedland increased 2.72% from a year earlier to 42.93 million tonnes in December, according to the Pilbara Ports Authority.
It was 13.02% higher than November. The shipments to China accounted for 86% of the port's total iron ore exports in the month.
Port Hedland is one of the world's largest iron ore export ports, used by three of the world's top four iron ore miners - BHP Group, Fortescue Metals Group and Roy Hill Holdings.
In December, Port Hedland's total iron ore exports reached 49.88 million tonnes, rising 1.23% on the year and 10.99% on the month, data showed.
Total exports throughout 2023 slid 0.97% year on year to 554 million tonnes. Shipments to China declined 1.61% to 475 million tonnes, taking up 86% of the total.
