Thirty-two major coal producers and end users signed medium- and long-term coal supply contracts totaling 400 million tonnes or so on the opening day of the 2024 China Coal Trade Conference.
Organized by the China National Coal Association (CNCA) and co-hosted by the China Coal Transportation and Distribution Association and the Tangshan city government, the coal trade fair commenced in Tangshan, Hebei province, on December 5, and is slated to continue until December 8.
Tang Shemin, deputy inspector of the economic operation regulation bureau at the National Development and Reform Commission, emphasized the strategic imperative of maintaining stability and fostering growth in coal production.
He underscored the need to release advanced production capacity, and efforts to meet the commitment of 2023 and 2024 long-term coal contracts.
Highlighting the pivotal role of coal and coal-fired power in the country's new energy system construction, An Hongguang, vice chairman of the China Electricity Council, called for strengthening of the long-term coal contract system, active exploration of effective supply guarantee mechanisms, and the enhancement of resilience and flexibility in the coal-electricity supply chain.
Dong Hui, deputy director of the Freight Department at China National Railway Group, voiced a commitment to elevating coal transport services. This includes augmenting coal transport volume, ensuring capacity assurances for mid-to-long-term coal contracts, and optimizing transportation structures for increased efficiency.
While ensuring sufficient energy supply, China's coal industry has made historic strides in green and low-carbon development, with modernized mines accounting for 80% of the total production capacity, according to Liang Jiakun, president of the CNCA.
The China Coal Trade Conference serves as a platform for industry leaders to forge crucial partnerships and sign supply and demand contracts for the upcoming year.
