Australia's coal exports were worth A$6.95 billion in September, rising 5.41% on the month yet falling 40.12% from a year ago, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Coal exports to Japan were valued at A$2.28 billion in September, down 1.57% from August and 59.24% year on year, accounting for 33% of Australia's total coal export value; coal shipments to India amounted to A$1.12 billion, up 31.62% on the month but down 26.19% on the year; and coal deliveries to South Korea were worth A$861 million, up 34.46% month on month and 5.13% year on year.
Coal exports to China's mainland were A$794 million, a sequential increase of 15.50% and compared with zero in the same month last year. Exports to China's Taiwan were worth A$578 million in September, dropping 4.59% from the month-ago level and 53.45% from the same period last year.
From January to September in 2023, Australia's coal export value totaled A$77.27 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 27.31%. Among them, the export value of coal to Japan was A$27.44 billion, down 31.35% year on year.
