China's Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang said the country will take all necessary measures to guarantee energy security this winter and next spring, Xinhua News Agency reported on November 9.
Speaking during a televised conference on winter energy supply, Ding said ensuring heating and power supply is a major priority. He called on officials to implement the central government's policies to strengthen energy reserves, boost domestic coal production and imports, and fulfill contract obligations.
China has expanded storage facilities and increased gas inventories in preparation for winter. Securing coal supply remains a key focus, with firms incentivized to raise production and imports increased to supplement domestic production.
Coal reserves will be tapped to stabilize prices and priority given to residential users. Contingency plans are in place to ensure supply for households switching from coal heating to gas or electricity. Safety inspections will also be enhanced to avoid accidents, Ding noted.
Provincial leaders and industry executives attended the conference. Ding urged coordinated efforts across regions and sectors to keep homes warm and the economy running through the winter months.
