Indonesia's coal exports registered notable year-on-year and month-on-month growths in October, surpassing the previous record in March and hitting a new high since at least January 2017.
The country exported 48.77 million tonnes of coal in October, up 10.76% from 44.04 million tonnes a year ago and 22.95% from 39.67 million tonnes in September, Kpler's data showed.
In the first ten months of 2023, Indonesia exported 419 million tonnes of coal, up 11.29% on the year.
Indonesia shipped 45.56 million tonnes of coal to Asian countries in October, rising 9.23% from the previous year and 18.97% from a month ago, and accounting for 95.5% of total exports.
China remained the top destination for Indonesian coal in October with the shipment at 18.88 million tonnes, dipping 0.43% from a year earlier but up 29.07% from September.
October exports to India climbed 42.08% year on year and 12.28% month on month to 12.13 million tonnes. Deliveries to the Philippines increased 28.82% from a year ago and 29.92% from the month prior to 3.33 million tonnes.
During the month, exports to Japan rose 2.46% from a year earlier and jumped 70.35% from September to 2.36 million tonnes. Shipments to South Korea declined 20.01% from a year ago and 9.06% from September to 2.02 million tonnes.
