Southern Xinjiang in northwestern China saw its inaugural bonded coal storage facility officially begin operations on October 4, after receiving the first batch of imported coal.
On October 4, a shipment of 1,200 tonnes of imported coal from Irkeshtam border port of Kyrgyzstan was received and unloaded at the public-type bonded warehouse, marking the first shipment of imported coal to enter a bonded warehouse and signifying the official commencement of operations for the region's first coal storage and distribution bonded warehouse.
The warehouse is owned by Xinjiang COSCO Nanjiang Coal Storage and Transportation Co., Ltd. It covers an area of approximately 200 acres and boasts a static coal storage capacity of 400,000 tonnes, with the capability to handle an annual coal throughput of 5 million tonnes, according to Xinjiang Daily.
As the "Belt and Road" initiative continues to gather momentum, the company has invested 6 medium and large-scale coal mines in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, three of which are strategically located less than 200 km from either Turgart or the Irkeshtam border ports of Kyrgyzstan.
