Turkey imported 3.81 million tonnes of coal in August, basically unchanged from the preceding year and down 10.57% from a month earlier, the country's trading statistics showed.
The value of imports slumped 50.62% year on year to $487 million, down 22.15% from July. That put the average import price at $127.83/t in August, down 50.6% from a year ago and 12.94% month on month.
During January-August, Turkey's coal imports reached 25.61 million tonnes, up 16.37% from the year-ago level. The accumulative import value amounted to $3.91 billion, down 22.85% on the year.
Turkey's imports of bituminous coal stood at 3.28 million tonnes in August, increasing 5.61% year on year but down 5.65% from July. The imports amounted to $372 million, falling 45.64% year on year and 10.61% from the preceding month.
Anthracite coal imports in August dropped 53.85% from the year-ago level but gained 24.09% on the month to 69,400 tonnes. Coking coal imports were 459,800 tonnes, down 17.18% on the year and 35.72% on the month.
Turkey's imports of coke amounted to 32,600 tonnes in August, slumping 76.51% year on year and 22.18% month on month. The value of coke imports tumbled 88.82% on the year and 34.16% from July to $8.04 million.
