Coal exports from Australia rose 4.18% month on month and 9.43% year on year to 30.28 million tonnes in October, which marked the second consecutive month of increase, according to cargo tracking data from Kpler.
Japan was still the top destination of Australia coal in October with the shipment at 8.71 million tonnes, up 15.29% compared to September but down 15.99% on the year.
Coal exports to the second-ranked China's mainland stood at 5.88 million tonnes, rising 4.08% from the preceding month and compared with zero in October of the previous year, data showed.
India-bound shipments were 3.43 million tonnes, down 25.08% month on month and 14.02% from a year ago.
In the first ten months of 2023, Australian coal exports totaled 294 million tonnes, up 3.05% on the year.
