Japan produced 7.02 million tonnes of crude steel in September, falling 1.8% month on month and 1.7% year on year, according to data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation.
The output of ordinary steel was 5.37 million tonnes, down 3.7% from the preceding month and 1.5% compared to a year ago; that of special steel was 1.65 million tonnes, up 5.2% MoM but down 2.2% YoY.
In September, Japan's blast furnace steel production reached 5.14 million tonnes, declining 6.6% MoM yet rising 0.1% YoY; electric furnace steel output was 1.88 million tonnes, up 14.5% MoM but down 6.2% YoY.
The production of hot-rolled coils in Japan was 2.88 million tonnes over the same month, falling 7.1% MoM yet up 3.6% YoY; H-beam steel production was 287,000 tonnes, rising 10.0% MoM yet down 1.7% YoY, data showed.
The production of pig iron was registered at 5.08 million tonnes in September, down 5.5% MoM yet up 0.5% YoY.
From January to September, Japan's cumulative crude steel production totaled 65.39 million tonnes, down 3.6% from the preceding year; the output of pig iron dropped 2.5% YoY to 47.54 million tonnes.
