Tangshan and Handan, two major steel-making cities in northern China's Hebei province, have launched a level-E emergency response from October 27 in response to a forecast heavy air pollution.
Heavy-polluting industrial activities and trucking transportation are restrained amid the emergency actions.
Steel mills will typically be asked to trim or even halt production temporarily to mitigate pollution levels during the period.
It is currently uncertain when the pollution controls in both cities will be lifted, as this largely depends on improving air quality and meeting the prescribed environmental standards.
