Australia's coal exports were worth A$6.73 billion in August, marking the fifth month of decline, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The export value fell 10.04% on the month and 43.91% from a year ago, data showed.
Coal exports to Japan were valued at A$2.39 billion in August, down 12.72% from July and 59.52% year on year, accounting for 35% of Australia's total coal export value; coal exports to India amounted to A$848 million, down 25.25% on the month and 31.35% on the year; and coal exports to China's mainland were worth A$712 million, a 5.76% decline month on month and compared with zero in the same month last year.
Coal exports to South Korea were A$658 million, a sequential increase of 4.08% but a yearly slump of 43.11%. Exports to China's Taiwan were worth A$601 million in August, dropping 21.79% from the month-ago level and 60.82% from the same period last year.
From January to August in 2023, Australia's coal export value totaled A$70.47 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 25.60%. Among them, the export value of coal to Japan was A$25.23 billion, down 26.60% year on year.
