The construction work of the 7.1 km Mongolia-China Shiveekhuren-Ceke railway is expected to be completed by November 2023, Gogo Mongolia reported, citing officials from the Ministry of Road and Transport Development.
The connecting work between Mongolia's Shiveekhuren and China's Ceke border ports commenced on May 27 this year, with a planned construction period of six months. It is expected to become the second cross-border railway between China and Mongolia after Zamiin Uud- Erenhot.
The project serves as one of the critical links in a grander scheme to establish three railway corridors connecting Mongolia with Europe and Asia under Mongolia's New Revival Policy.
Mongolia plans a total of five railway crossings to facilitate its mineral exports - Zamiin Uud-Erlian, Shiveekhuren-Ceke, Gashuunsukhait-Ganqimaodu, Bichigt-Zhuengadabuqi, and Khangi-Mandula.
Construction of the Gashuunsukhait-Ganqimaodu border railway is expected to start in 2024, according to the local media. The schedule of the last two still awaits further information.
