India's coal dispatches is likely to exceed one billion tonnes in this fiscal year (April 2023-March 2024), the country's coal ministry said.
The ministry has set a target to produce and deliver 1.012 billion tonnes of coal to consumers during the ongoing fiscal, while the target for last fiscal was 896 million tonnes.
"During the second half of the year, the rate of production and dispatch is normally higher than the first half of the year. It is, therefore, expected that this year's dispatch of coal would exceed the one billion mark," the coal ministry said in a statement.
Coal shipment had surpassed 500 million tonnes as of November 9 in last financial year. During the current fiscal, the 500 million tonnes mark has been achieved 23 days in advance.
Among this, 417 million tonnes (+7.27% YoY) of coal have been delivered to the power sector and 84.77 million tonnes (+38.02% YoY) were for the non-regulated sector.
